#79: Read for 2 hours and answer the following questions in your notebook:

1. What kind of sentences does the author of the book you are reading use the most? simple, compound, complex or compound complex? (if you don't know what these terms mean, look them up!)
2. Write down the definitions of each of the following:

simple sentence
compound sentence
complex sentence
compound complex sentence

3. Write an example of each kind of sentence.

#80: Organize your notes for the test on Thursday. Make sure you know the definition of each part of speech and can give at least 10 examples of each part of speech.

(Due Tuesday, Jan. 26)

#81: Read for half an hour and then take one page of your book and copy it into your homework notebook. Label all the parts of speech on it.

(Due Wednesday, Jan. 27)

#82: Study for your test for at least 45 minutes. Complete the study log handout.

#84: Read for two hours and write two pages in your HW notebook answering the following questions:

1. Do you think a lot of people have read the book you are reading? why or why not?
2. Would you recommend it to other people? why or why not? give three specific reasons.
3. Do you have some books in mind that you would like to read next? do they relate to the book you are reading now in any way?
4. We are halfway through the school year, which means you should have read at least 12 books independently by now. How many have you read?

#32: Read for at least two hours and write one page answering the questions: What are the themes of the book you are reading? how do you know? what actions or events in the story tell you what the themes are? If you were an author and you wrote a novel, what kinds of themes would you address? how and why? (Due Monday, 11/2)

#34: Reading response. (Due Thursday, 11/5)

#35: Read p. 18 in the WRITE! book and complete A, B and C on p. 19. (Due Friday, 11/6)

#36: Read for at least two hours and write one page answering the questions:

1. Who are the main characters in your book?
2. How would you describe them? what are they like?
3. How do they change during the story? to explain the changes, choose 2 examples from to show what they were like after they before they changed and two examples to show what they were like after they changed.
4. What is the most interesting, funny or surprising thing that has happened in your book between two characters? what happened? why did you find it interesting, surprising, or funny? (Due Monday, 11/9)
