First marking period extra credit

This assignment is one extra credit essay grade. It will be graded using the standard rubric (click to download) that we have gone over in class.

Your assignment: Download and read this recent article about South Africa from The New York Times. Then answer the questions: What can students in New York learn from the situation of students in South Africa? what are the similarities and differences between your life as a student and their lives as students?

Your essay should be at least four paragraphs long and include direct information or evidence from the article. You will also:

1. Write a Harvard Outline for your essay and turn it in with the final copy.

2. Write a first draft of your essay and have it peer revised either by another student or by someone outside of school (mom, dad, older sibling, aunt, uncle, etc.) YOU MUST USE THIS PEER REVISION SHEET AND TURN IT IN WITH YOUR ESSAY. IT MUST BE SIGNED BY YOUR PEER REVISER.

3. Turn in the final draft of the essay, typed or on loose leaf, by October 15. Do not forget to also turn in your peer revision sheet, outline and rough draft.
