The book I am reading is "The Skin I'm In." One main idea in the book is discrimination. I know this is a main idea because many of the events in the book involve characters discriminating against each other. For instance, students make fun of Maleeka, the main character, because she is darker than they are. Other students discriminate against Maleeka's teacher, Ms. Saunders, because an accident left her face disfigured. Char, Maleeka's "best friend," discriminates against Maleeka because she is poor and can't afford fancy or "cool" clothes. I like this main idea because I think the author, Sharon Flake, has written a book that accurately reflects the kinds of things that happen to students in middle school.
